China has hit out at India saying the visit of the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to the border region of Arunachal Pradesh next year will damage relations between the two countries, adding that the visit would mean giving a “platform for the Dalai clique” in carrying out separatist activities.

On oct.10, top leadership of the Arunachal state government along with CM Pema Khandu met the Dalai Lama in New Delhi and invited the Tibetan leader to visit the state in March next year, to which the 81 year old agreed.

On Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang asserted that the visit of Tibetan leader will impede the already complicated relations between the two countries. He said, "We hope India will not further complicate matters on the China-India border and will not give the Dalai Lama clique a platform for its anti-China separatist activities. Only in this way will the China-India relationship be able to develop in a healthy, stable way."

However, New Delhi has given official clearance for the visit of the Nobel laureate. Indian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson told reporters, "The Dalai Lama is a revered spiritual figure and an honoured guest of India. He is absolutely free to travel to any part of the country. He has a sizeable following among the Buddhists in Arunachal Pradesh who would like to seek his blessings. He has visited the state in the past as well, and we see nothing unusual if he visits it again."

Earlier in 2009, China raised similar objections when the Dalai Lama made a visit to the border region, India likewise played down China’s qualms saying Arunachal was an integral part of India.
